Zinder

Zinder - description of the city:

Zinder, also called Sinder, is a city in Niger, Africa. It is a very large city, second only to Niamey in size and population, as this city has over 200,000 people as residents living there. It is in the southern area of Niger, close to the border of Niger and Nigeria.

Zinder, as a city in Niger, exhibits the climatic characteristics of the country itself. Niger as a city experiences a record amount of heat worldwide, making it categorized as one of the hottest city areas in the world. There isn’t a lot of precipitation per year, and the majority of it only occurs during one fairly short period of time in the year. Most of the area is desert-like, being right south of the Saharan desert, and north of the Sahel area.

Historicаlly, the city grew from a small tribal village. From there it became the central point of trading within the Saharan areas, and a seat of governmental rule by the sultan. From there, it grew in size through the increasing trade activity in the desert area of Niger. During the French occupаtion, the city served as a base of operations for a military, and after Niger’s independence, it was renamed and it returned to the traditional way of life.

The city, as far as the urban areas go, is divided into five primary designations. These sectors are named numerically as Zinder I to Zinder V. Overall, for the entire city, the city is cut into 3 sections, each with their own main point of interest or category. The first is the «old» town, which has many aspects of the city’s past, such as ancient palaces and places of religious worship. The second designated area is the old suburb of the Tuareg people. This place is famous for its beautiful аrchitecture. The last area is the «new» town. This place is the biggest centre for merchandising, buying, and selling. There is a very big market in this district. All three of these areas are worth visiting to see either the ancient sites, the traditional and culturally designed buildings, or the bustling marketplace.
