Stuttgart

Stuttgart - description of the city:

Stuttgart is located in the southern part of Germany. The population of the city was 613,392 at the end of 2011. It is the 6th largest city of the country and is the capital of Baden-Wurttemberg. Stuttgart lies in the middle of an extremely populated area that is surrounded by a bunch of smaller towns. The Stuttgart Region area has a population of around 2.7 million. The urban area has a population of nearly 1.8 million, which makes it the 7th largest of Germany.

The city spreads across several hills, parks, and valleys. This is quite unusual for a city in Germany and many people who visit the area are somewhat surprised as the area is known for being the cradle for the automobile. The city is the seat for state legislature, the local council, and the regional parliament.

In the livability rankings of 2010, the city was ranked 30th in the world and 7th in Germany. For social and economic innovation Stuttgart was ranked 11th in the world and 2nd in Germany, just after Hamburg.

The slogan for the city is “Stuttgart offers more.” There are plans to improve the transportation links in the city to the international infrastructure to make the city easier to visit. The city unveiled new plans and a new logo in March of 2008 and described itself as being the new heart for Europe. The city has marketed itself as being a creative power of Germany as well in hopes of enticing more business people to stay in the area.

The city is well-known for its cultural heritage. Some of the more famous sites include the State Gallery and the State Theater. The State opera takes place in the state theater as well as 3 small theaters located throughout the area.

Points Of Interest

Right in the middle of Stuttgart there are a number of gardens that are popular with both cyclists and families. Owing to its shape on a map, the residents call it Green U. The Green U has its starting point sa the old Schlossgarten, which were castle gardens that were first described in records as early as the 14th century. The current park is divided into an upper garden and middle and lower gardens – comprising 61 hectacres total. There is also a Stuttgart planetarium at the park.

At the remote end of Schlossgarten, there is another Green U park, the bigger Rosensteinpark that borders the Wilhelma zoo and botanical gardens. Both the botanical gardens and zoo make for a great day trip with your family. King William I planted the park many centuries ago, and it has old trees and open-area courtyards, and it is the biggest English-style garden in the southern part of Germany. You will find the former Rosenstein castle, now called the Rosenstein museum, in the grounds of the park.

Other parks inside Stuttgart include Landesarborteum Baden-Wrutemberg and Botanischer Garten der Universitat Hohenheim.

There are several artificial and natural lakes and ponds in Stuttgart.
