The capital has the Pyongyang Sunan International Airport and the outer harbor of the South Pyongyang Province. It is a large industrial center of the country. There are ferrous and nonferrous metals, machinery, textiles, food, chemical industry, and production of building materials. The city also has the CHP and a subway. There is North Korea's main coal basin situated near Pyongyang. The city has the Academy of Sciences of Korea, the University, theatres, and museums (including the Museum of the Revolution and the National Art Gallery). Historical and architectural monuments consist of the watchtower (3rd century, rebuilt in the 14th century), the Taedong Gate (3rd century, rebuilt in the 17th century), and the Potong Gate (10th century, rebuilt in the 15th century).
